Stick Hero 1.2

The fast and the reckless

I've often thought I could do better at Flappy Bird if would only had a bit of respite from time to time. You know, put down the phone, stretch a little, crack my knuckles and then get back in full force and avoid that tree stump. Well, today I was proved wrong. Today I stumbled across what I would hesitantly call a mix between Flappy Bird and Angry Birds(?), but with no birds involved. There are some cherries though. Am I making any sense?

Stick Hero

Suggestive themes

Stick Hero is not called this way because of the main protagonist being a stick man. He actually isn't. He's a barrel man if you ask me. The stick part comes from the fact that he can magically grow sticks to place between tall structures. He does this in order to reach as many buildings as he can before finally doing something wrong and falling to his doom. He has a problem though. He just doesn't have the patience to see if his stick is firmly placed on the other side before bursting into a dash across it. I mean, I admire his courage and perfect balance, but for God's sake man, check the other side first! Now, if you've smiled even a little then shame on you! I know what you're thinking!

The controls are simple. As the hero awaits patiently on the ledge, you need to tap and hold to make him grow his stick. Now, you only need to grow it for it to reach on the other side when it is toppled over. You see, the stick grows upwards, so it's not always clear if it will be too long or to short, or just right. Once you release the tap, he will push the stick forward and start running over it. If the stick does not reach the other side, or it goes over the other building then our hero falls on the ground... and dies, presumably.

Stick Hero

The great difficulty rests in the speed with which the stick is growing. You need to estimate correctly and you need to do it fast. But here we get to the cherries. Ye see, sometimes there are cherries under the stick. If you will flip under the stick and grab them quickly before hitting the walls then you've collected some. Cherries can be exchanged for different characters. Although it is risky to collect them, buying a new character gets you out of the circle of frustration. New characters move slower and are generally easier to handle. This allows you to get cherries quicker so that you can buy better characters and so on.

Conclusion

I don't know why I play this game and I think Ketchapp have flung my addiction cord. This game is simple and effective. It's a win! Now I only need to get to 75 cherries.
